Steven L. McKnight received his undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Texas in 1974 and his graduate degree in biology from the University of Virginia in 1977. He worked as an independent fellow under the mentorship of Donald Brown at the Carnegie Embryology Department between 1977 and 1981. He subsequently held academic positions at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (1981-1983), the Carnegie Embryology Department (1981-1992), and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (1995-present). Dr. McKnight has been involved in several biotechnology companies including Tularik, Inc., Peloton Therapeutics, and Nura Bio, Inc. Throughout his career Dr. McKnight has used biochemical, molecular biological and biophysical approaches to study regulatory phenomena that control biological processes.” Dr. McKnight is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Medicine of the NAS, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences
