Dr. Beisel is an assistant professor in the department of chemical and biomolecular engineering at North Carolina State University. He received his PhD in chemical engineering from the California Institute of Technology and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in bacterial genetics at the National Institutes of Health. As a faculty member at NC State University, Dr. Beisel has developed a research program devoted to understanding and exploiting CRISPR-Cas immune systems. His group's current efforts center on exploring the functional diversity of these systems and how they can be harnessed as programmable antimicrobials and genetic tools for non-model bacteria.
