I received my Ph.D. in 1991 from the University of Toronto. My thesis work focused on the DNA packaging enzyme of E. coli phage lambda. I was a post-doctoral fellow from 1991 to 1995 in the laboratory of Robert Sauer at MIT where I studied protein structure and folding. I joined the faculty at the University of Toronto in 1995. Research in my laboratory is currently focused on many aspects of phage biology, including CRISPR-Cas systems.
