Andy leads the Genome Engineering platform at the CZBiohub. His primary research interests are in the development of technologies for the engineering and analysis of biological systems to understand molecular mechanisms, networks and interactions. At the CZBiohub, he will be working on approaches to combine genome-editing and single-cell genomics for functional screens in primary cells and tissues, development of the engineering toolbox for genome surgery approaches for rare genetic diseases and the design and engineering of cells and biological devices as diagnostics and therapeutics. Andy has spent much of his career at early-stage biotechnology companies, building teams and developing technologies from concept to commercial product. He led the research team at Caribou Biosciences focused on developing CRISPR-Cas technologies; developed products for single-cell sequencing, cell-free DNA sequencing, HLA-typing and structural proteomics at Fluidigm Corporation, and worked in drug discovery teams at Thios Pharmaceuticals and Signature Biosciences. His graduate and postgraduate work He received a B.A. in Chemistry and a D.Phil. in Molecular Biophysics, both from the University of Oxford.
