Thomas Langer is professor at the Institute for Genetics at the University of Cologne. After his Ph.D. and postdoctoral work at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich and the Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, he established his own group at the University of Cologne focusing on mitochondrial proteases and their role in the regulation of mitochondrial function. His group is in particular interested how proteolytic processes regulate mitochondrial dynamics and membrane homeostasis and how disturbances in mitochondrial proteostasis contribute to aging, neurodegenerative diseases and cardiomyopathies.
