Since I established my laboratory at Fundacion CNIC in Madrid in 2009, my research has focused on specific facets of innate immune and vascular biology. Many of my group’s interests stem from my early work in leukocyte trafficking. We ask general questions about the biology of myeloid cells: Why do they go where they go, or more to the point, why do they seek specific areas of the body rather than migrate randomly? What are the biological principles that orchestrate their migration? What specific functions do they fulfil in the particular microenvironments in which they dwell? And, can we benefit from this knowledge to protect tissues?
