Shane Liddelow gained his Bachelors of Science (Hons) and Biomedical Science, and his PhD from the University of Melbourne, Australia. He is currently a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Dr Ben Barres in the Department of Neurobiology at Stanford University. In 2018 he will join the faculty at the Neuroscience Institute at NYU Langone. His research focus is on the close association between astrocytes, microglia, and the brain. He has shown the timing and mechanism for astrocyte reactivity relies on microglia, and that reactive astrocytes release a toxic factor that targets specific subtypes of neurons.
