Richard M. Ransohoff received AB in Literature and Languages from Bard College and MD with honors from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine (CWRU-SOM). After residency training in Internal Medicine and Neurology he performed postdoctoral research in the Dept of Molecular Biology and Microbiology at CWRU-SOM. A staff neurologist at the Cleveland Clinic’s Mellen Center for MS Treatment and Research (1984-2014), he was cited in the “Best Doctors” compendium continuously from 1996-2014. He directed the Cleveland Clinic’s Neuroinflammation Research Center (2005-2014) and his research was recognized by the John Dystel Prize for MS Research (2012). As Senior Research Fellow, VP and Research Unit Head for Neuroimmunology, Pain and Acute Neurology at Biogen (2014-2017), his responsibility extended from discovery research through Phase 2 Proof of Concept, and his basic and clinical interests focused on neuroinflammation-in-neurodegeneration (AD, PD, ALS, Progressive MS); neuropathic.pain, stroke and TBI. Going forward as biotech entrepreneur at Third Rock Ventures, he'll concentrate on applying glial biology for value creation for patients, across the spectrum of neurological disease.
