Ed Hurt

Hurt was a post-doctoral fellow at the Biozentrum University of Basel Switzerland, where he studied the role of mitochondrial pre-sequences for protein import into mitochondria. In 1987, he became a group leader at the EMBL in Heidelberg, Germany, where he initiated studies to analyze the structure and the function of the nuclear pore complex. During this time, Hurt became also interested in the assembly and maturation of the eukaryotic ribosomal subunits. In 1995, Hurt became Full Professor at the Medical Faculty of Heidelberg University, where he continued his research on NPC and ribosome biogenesis over the past 25 years.
