Bryce Nickels

Bryce Nickels received a B.S. (chemistry) from Miami University, a Ph.D. from Harvard University (microbiology), and completed postdoctoral work (microbiology) with Ann Hochschild at Harvard Medical School. He is a Professor of Genetics at Rutgers University and Laboratory Director at the Waksman Institute of Microbiology. His research focus is the study of the mechanism and regulation of gene expression in bacterial systems. His work includes studies of transcription initiation, transcription elongation, and transcriptional regulation, particularly in the areas of transcription start site selection, transcription pausing, nanoRNAs, and RNA capping. His lab has developed several high-throughput sequencing methods for analysis of protein-nucleic-acid interactions, protein-protein interactions, protein conformations, nucleic-acid processing, and nucleic-acid modifications. He is a Pew Scholar (2008) and American Academy of Microbiology Fellow (2018).
