Shujia Zhu is a Professor at the School of Life Sciences, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). Her research group has long been dedicated to studying the atomic structure, gating mechanism, pharmacology, and physiological function of excitatory NMDA receptors in the brain. She received her PhD in Neuroscience under the supervision of Prof. Pierre Paoletti at the École Normale Supérieure in 2009. Her doctoral thesis received the highest academic distinction from the Université Pierre et Marie Curie. In 2014, she pursued her postdoctoral training with Prof. Eric Gouaux at the Vollum Institute of Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, USA. She joined the Institute of Neuroscience at the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2016 as a principal investigator and was promoted to tenure in 2022. She moved to SUSTech in Shenzhen in March 2025.
