Lei earned her PhD at Duke University, where her research focused on template-free synthesis of ssDNA using terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase for drug-delivery applications. She began her editorial career at Nature Methods in 2018, covering genomics, sequencing technologies, and CRISPR-related topics. Since then, she has been drawn to emerging multimodal approaches for studying individual cells and to understanding the practical challenges researchers face when bringing new methods from concept to bench.
