Lara is a Deputy Scientific Editor at Cell. She earned her PhD in Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Colorado working with Thomas Cech on catalytic RNA. She then traveled to Yale to conduct postdoctoral research in ribonucleoprotein particle biogenesis with Joan Steitz and Scott Strobel. She joined Cell Press as the Associate Editor of Structure and Chemistry & Biology in 2005, and joined the Cell editorial team in 2006. She became a Deputy Editor at Cell in 2019.
