Melanie Samuel, PhD is Assistant Professor of Neuroscience and CPRIT Scholar in the Huffington Center on Aging at Baylor College of Medicine. She completed her PhD at Washington University on neurotropic virus pathogenesis with Dr. Michael Diamond. As a postdoctoral fellow with Dr. Joshua Sanes at Harvard University, she worked on mechanisms of synapse formation and decline. Her honors include awards from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation, as well as a pathway to Independence Award from the NIH, the NIH Directors new Innovator award, and the Nancy Chang Excellence in Research Award. Dr. Samuel’s intradisciplinary research group leverages novel single cell sequencing approaches together with nanoscopic imaging and high-throughput in vivo molecular studies of single cells and their circuits in order to identify ways to repair neural circuits.
