Peter’s research embraces materials chemistry and electrochemistry, with a parficular emphasis on lithium and sodium bafteries. Current research focuses on revealing and mifigafing failure mechanisms in solid-state bafteries, understanding oxygen redox in high-capacity Li-ion cathodes, and the challenges of the lithium-air baftery. He has received a number of prestigious awards, including from the Royal Society of Chemistry, the Electrochemical Society and the German Chemical Society. Clarivate have recognised him as a HighlyCited Researcher every year since 2015. Between 2018 and 2023 he served as the Physical Secretary and Vice-President of the Royal Society (UK’s national science academy).
