Dr. Walter is a Professor of Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and a member of the Siteman Cancer Center.  He trained in Internal Medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital and completed a fellowship and post-doctoral training in Hematology-Oncology at Washington University.  In collaboration with the McDonnell Genome Institute at Washington University, his laboratory at Washington University focuses on the discovery of mutations and clonal evolution that occurs within the genomes of hematopoietic cells from patients with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). The group has also used sequencing to monitor persistent molecular disease and tumor burden in patients following chemotherapy and transplantation for MDS.
