María Casanova-Acebes has made key contributions to understanding temporal and microenvironmental regulation of myeloid cells in cancer. Her graduate work revealed that circadian cues drive neutrophil aging and clearance, reshaping hematopoietic and metastasis-prone organs. As a postdoctoral researcher, she identified lung-resident macrophages as regulators of early Treg expansion and EMT programs in lung cancer. At CNIO, her lab investigates how micro- and macro-environmental signals sculpt myeloid states in tumors to uncover actionable vulnerabilities. She has authored more than 25 publications, exceeding 8,000 citations, and her work has been recognized with major awards, including an ERC Starting Grant and the European MDSC Award.
