Dr Mahima Swamy is a Programme Leader in the MRC Protein Phosphorylation and Ubiquitylation Unit (MRC PPU) at the University of Dundee. Originally from Bangalore, India, she did her PhD at the Max-Planck Institute of Immunobiology in Freiburg, Germany, and then two postdoc stints, one in CRUK’s London Research Institute with Prof. Adrian Hayday, and another at the University of Dundee with Prof. Doreen Cantrell. She started her lab in Sept 2017 with a Wellcome Trust Sir Henry Dale Fellowship, and since 2024, is a Programme Leader in the MRC PPU. She was selected to join the EMBO Young Investigator Programme in 2022. Mahima’s lab works broadly in the areas of intestinal immunology, diet, intestinal infection and autoimmune bowel diseases, with a focus on intestinal intraepithelial lymphocytes (IEL), a class of poorly characterised T cells that reside within the intestinal epithelium.
