Speaker

Dr. Tiffany Scharschmidt is a Professor and Vice Chair of Research in the Department of Dermatology at the University of California, San Francisco. Her laboratory investigates mechanisms that facilitate host-microbiome cross talk at the skin interface with a particular focus on the early life window and mechanisms that enable tolerance to commensal bacteria. Recent work from her group has elucidated the role of specific dendritic cells in generating the early life commensal-specific Treg response. It has also highlighted how microbial recruitment of monocytes into neonatal skin helps regulate IL-1 signaling and excessive type 17 inflammation to the skin microbiome. Dr. Scharschmidt is an inducted member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation and has been the recipient of numerous honors including an NIH New Innovator Award alongside those from the Burroughs Welcome Fund, Doris Duke Foundation, American Academy of Dermatology and Leo Foundation. .
