Christian Münch

Dr. Christian Münch is endowed chair and Lichtenberg-Professor for Molecular Systems Medicine and Director of the Functional Proteomics Center at Goethe University Frankfurt. He received his PhD from the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology and the University of Cambridge for his work on protein misfolding in ALS with Dr. Anne Bertolotti. Afterwards, Dr. Münch was an EMBO postdoctoral fellow with Dr. Wade Harper at Harvard Medical School, where he became interested in the mitochondrial unfolded protein response.

The Münch laboratory combines various molecular and omics methods to study the mechanisms and system-wide consequences of cellular stress processes. This work has revealed mechanistic insight into the full circle of mitochondrial protein biology during stress, revealing the molecular signals of the mitochondrial unfolded protein response and the resulting changes in transcription, translation, protein import, mitophagy, and mitochondrial proteostasis.
