Eicke Latz

After working as an intensive care physician at the Charité Hospital in Berlin, Eicke Latz left Medicine in the year 2000 to perform basic science in innate immunity at Boston University and UMass Medical School, where he currently is Adjunct Full Professor. In 2010 he founded the Institute of Innate Immunity at the University of Bonn in Germany, where a group of international scientists investigates how the innate immune system functions to maintain health and under which situation innate immune dysfunction contributes to disease pathogenesis.  In 2016 Dr. Latz co-founded IFM Therapeutics, a biotech company that develops new medicines targeting innate immune receptors. Together with the pharmaceutical industry, IFM Therapeutics has brought several small molecule immune modulators for the NLRP3 inflammasome and STING into the clinic. Dr. Latz has been a highly cited researcher in immunology since 2014. In 2017 he received the Leibniz Price for his scientific contributions.
