De Camilli earned his M.D. from the University of Milano and was a postdoc with Paul Greengard at Yale. After a brief return to Italy, he moved back to Yale where he has been ever since and where he served as Chair of the Department of Cell Biology (1997-2000), Founding Director of the Program in Cellular Neuroscience, Neurodegeneration and Repair and Chair of the Department of Neuroscience (2015-2021). He is member of EMBO, of the National Academy of Sciences (USA) and the National Academy of Medicine (USA).

De Camilli’s lab investigates mechanisms underlying the dynamics of intracellular membranes with emphasis on neuronal function.
