Gewirtz

Dr. Gewirtz earned his Ph.D. in Biochemistry in 1996 from Boston University School of Medicine.  He did postdoctoral studies at Brigham and Women's Hospital/HMS and Emory University, where he later served on faculty from 2000-2011 as Asisstant and Associate Professor. In 2011, he relocated his lab to Georgia State University's Institute for Biomedical Sciences' Center for Inflammation, Immunity and Infection, where he holds the title of Distinguished University Center Professor.   His research focuses on host-microbiome interactions in the intestine, particularly in the context of infectious and chronic inflammatory diseases.
