Dr. Zhao obtained his doctor’s degree from Department of Biochemistry, Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, USA, in 2000. He worked for Procter & Gamble after graduation before he joined Fudan University, Shanghai, China, to start his academic career in 2006. Dr. Zhao’s lab works on the signaling roles of metabolites, include how the metabolites are sensed intracellularly and how deregulated metabolites levels and their sensory proteins are linked to onset of such human diseases as cancers, type 2 diabetes and birth defects. His lab identified protein lysine acetylation regulates cellular metabolism and tRNA synthetases are sensory proteins of amino acids.
