Welcome Letter

Dear colleague,

Replacing fossil energy with renewable energy is becoming the mainstream of the development of new energy technologies. From theoretical innovation, the advent of prototype technologies to the optimization and maturation of technologies, the development of new energy technologies often involves the integration of various energy materials, which depends not only on the discovery and development of new energy materials of different functionalities, but also on the optimization of these energy materials and their interfaces in the energy application system. Therefore, the development of new energy technologies often requires cross-disciplinary collaboration and joint effort. In 2012, Xiamen University, Fudan University, University of Science and Technology of China and Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences co-founded the Collaborative Innovation Center of Chemistry for Energy Materials (iChEM) to bring together key innovative elements among the universities, research institutes and enterprises in China and abroad, to promote complementary, win-win cooperation across organizations and disciplines, The research at iChEM focuses on optimal utilization of carbon resources, chemical energy storage and conversion, and solar energy conversion, new energy materials, technology transfer and characterization of energy system.

To promote the in-depth exchange and collaboration between Chinese and international researchers on chemistry for energy materials, iChEM has made sustained efforts to create a high-level international academic exchange and collaboration platform. The conference “Cell Symposium: Next-Generation Materials for Energy Applications”, co-hosted by iChEM and Cell Press, will take place at Xiamen University on November 17-19, 2019. The symposium covers a wide range of cutting-edge scientific and technological topics such as new solar cell materials and technology (perovskite solar cells and organic photovoltaic cells, etc.), electrochemical energy storage (lithium ion battery and grid scale energy storage, etc.), energy electrocatalysis (HER, OER and HOR, ORR, electroreduction of CO2 and N2, etc.), energy materials (single-atom catalysts, zeolites and porous materials such as MOF and COF). We hope that the in-depth discussions on the topics will strengthen academic exchanges, condense consensus and jointly promote the development of new generation energy technologies. So far, 18 internationally recognized scholars from the United States, China, Switzerland, Canada, Italy, Korea, Saudi Arabia and Japan, etc. have agreed to attend this symposium.

On behalf of the organizing committee and iChEM, I would like to cordially invite scholars on energy materials to join us on this academic meeting, to enhance cooperation, build communication and work together to promote the development of the disciplinary and the related domains!
